Hello all, I am pleased to announce the details of our next Digital Lincoln Meetup which will take place on Tuesday 27th September at the Think Tank in Lincoln.
We'll kick off the evening with a chance to meet and chat with other Digital Lincoln members over a drink and pizza followed by 2 talks by our guest speakers.
Thomas Blount will start the talks with an update on the Boole Technology Centre and how building work is progressing on this exciting new development for the city.
Our main speaker for the evening will be Dr. Rona Mackenzie, Principal of Lincoln UTC, a new college for 14-18 years olds specialising in Science, Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Science. She has a strong background in education, having worked in six local authorities during her sixteen-year career. Rona has a wide range of leadership and management experience and completed a Masters in Educational Disadvantage and SEN in 2005 and a Doctorate in Education in 2012.
The Lincoln UTC workshops contain state-of-the-art 3D printers and CNC routers which students can use to gain real world experience of working in high-tech engineering. In 2015, code developed by Lincoln UTC students won a national computing competition and was taken aboard the International Space Station by astronaut Tim Peake. They are also launching a new Games Computing Pathway which covers everything from coding skills to visual effects. The Lincoln UTC is a vital ingredient in the future of digital technology for our city.
Outside of work, Rona is a keen sportswoman and mountaineer, trekking to Everest and Annapurna Base Camps. She will be coming to speak to the Digital Lincoln group after returning from summiting Stok Kangri in Northern India in August 2016. Any normal person goes to Center Parcs for their summer holiday! so I'm sure you'll agree with me that Rona is an inspirational figure and we very much look forward to hearing her talk to the Digital Lincoln
group.
So should be a great evening and I hope to see you there!
Regards
Daniel
